Help a sister (mine!) out!

Wow busy weekend! I always look forward to the weekends so that I can “relax” but let’s be honest, I feel like I never slow down. Great news! It snowed some on Saturday, which was great because the air here needed some serious help! The pollution was so, so bad.


Of course I watched the Super Bowl on Sunday. My friend had a big party. This picture captures maybe half the actual number of people there. There was another TV set up in another room. It was a fun mix of Sea Hawks and Broncos fan. The game (as you know may well know) was boring but the food and the company were good.


I love football, but I don’t watch much professional football. This year though, I did want the Sea Hawks to win because two former USU Aggies play on the team. It was fun to see them play and win!! So shout out to Robert Turbin and Bobby Wagner. You’ve done the Aggie family proud!


Now here is where audience participation comes into play this week: my little sister is participating in the Miss USU pageant next week (Miss Science! That’s my sister!) and she needs you to watch her video!! The one with the most views by the pageant next week wins the People’s Choice award. It’s only 32 seconds, so take a gander and help her out! Please and thank you.

On another note, I did make it to the gym yesterday for a quick workout on that swishy machine that’s like an elliptical but the arms don’t move….anyone know the actual name?? It was short but intense and I was sweating bullets. I love a good, sweaty workout. I’ll be going for a run today. Can’t wait!

2 more days til She Runs. So.Dang.Excited. Stephanie and I are going to have a blast!!!

They pricked my finger

Yesterday at my work, we had assessments done for our own wellness program. I mean, it only makes sense that a wellness company would have standards for its own employees right? I was excited/didn’t know what to expect because any time I’ve ever had something like this done for the doctor I’ve never known what the numbers meant. I’m happy to report that all came in under the standard and I’m pleased with my blood work! They did prick my finger though. Ouch.


Speaking of injuries, I took off my jacket and noticed this on my arms…and no, this is not some weird way of showing off my arms. As you can see there’s nothing to show haha


What the heck is with these perfectly parallel scratches?! I have no idea where they came from. Maybe they’ll scar and I can make up some story about a fight with the bear and how “you should see the other guy”. That would be hard core.

After work my roommate and I were too desperately hungry to consider cooking (who does that?) so she talked me into going to this cute cafe down the road from our house.

Needless to say, I’ll be going back there AOAP (as often as possible). Also, I was so full I couldn’t move, so I spent the rest of the night catching up on Parenthood and The Mindy Project. I watch Hulu so little these days that I literally have weeks of catching up to do and I’ve stopped caring so much so the shows that are still on my list are actually quite exclusive.


Also, can we talk for a quick minute about how the BLEND retreat is in Park City, UT again this year?? Guys, that’s like 30 minutes from my house! Last year I found out way too late that it was so close to me and I was sad I didn’t make it. I think I’m going to need to make every effort possible to go this year. I’ve seen some of you talking about it on your blogs and just thought of so many of my blogger friends (I know, I know…blends!) being there makes me so happy! I have a lot of pennies to save with all the fun stuff I want to do this year. Yeesh!

Today is full of lots of errands, activities, preparation for some things I’m doing at work on Monday and hopefully somewhere in there a workout!

Yesterday was a great day. I ran AGAIN with minimal pain! It felt soooo good! How fast do you think I can get before my 5k next Saturday?? haha I know, I know. I need to be careful not to injure my foot again (or more). It’s just so exciting to be able to run I have to remind myself not to push it. I can’t wait to start being able to do more speed work and long runs. I’ve really missed it. Running is my happy place.

Oh yeah, this is me taking a creepy picture of Deborah right before we started our run. I thought she’d appreciate it.


Reason #2 it was a great day: I remembered that I had a coupon for a free bowl from Noodles and Co for my birthday! Woohoo! You get $9 worth of credit, so I got the big Penne Rosa and added grilled chicken. It was delicious. Also, I only ate half and left the rest at work for lunch today. So. Dang. Happy. I think things taste even better when they’re free.

I also won the dart tournament my friends and I had yesterday. Please notice that none of the boys even made it passed the first round. That’s my only comment on that πŸ˜‰


We also played this Lightening Game a few times. I did it twice and it was not nearly as fun as darts…and much more painful. Everyone holds on to their own buzzer and when the music stops and the light in the middle turns green, you have to press your buzzer and the last one to press it gets zapped! See for yourself…

Good times. And now TGIF!! Only 6 more sleeps until She Runs! Happy last day of January!

Awesome, fantastic, best news I’ve had in a while: Yesterday I ran 3 miles…and my foot didn’t really even hurt at all! It was glorious! I’ve been trying to think of what I’ve done recently that would have changed it and I think rolling it out is going to be the key to helping it heal faster. I rolled it out last week when it was hurting pretty bad and then I had a pedicure on Saturday, where they massaged my foot. I think all of it really helped. It makes sense right? Because people roll out their IT bands and muscles all the time to prevent injury. Why can’t I do the same with my foot? So we’re trying it out and praying that my foot keeps feeling better.

For my birthday, my sister gave me one of those individualized blenders! I made myself a smoothie with greek yogurt, frozen berries, a spoonful of peanut butter (yum!) and some water. Delicious!! I’ll be using this a ton. Please feel free to give me some recipes to try! I’d love to get in more green smoothies. No kale though, please. Gross.


Yesterday for lunch, I had this amazing salad. I just had to share it with you. Spinach, strawberries, blueberries, and grapes with a strawberry poppy seed dressing. Yum! So. darn. good. I wish I had grilled chicken ready to go because that would have been the cherry on top!


My coworker also had a couple of us try one of these. It’s supposed to put your PH back into balance and give you energy and probiotics Β and 8+ servings of fruits and vegetables (true story) and make you better than ever. Or something like that. All I know is that it tasted a little strange, there was a lot of residue left in the cup when I was done drinking and I had to pee all afternoon (TMI?). Safe to say I wasn’t sold on this.

My wise coaching advice for today: make sure that even though you’re trying to eat less to lose weight, that you’re still eating enough to sustain your body! Eating too little can be detrimental to your weight loss/maintenance goals, especially if you’re also in training. Food is fuel. Make sure you’re giving your body the fuel that it needs!

My bibs have a home now

Deborah made this for me for my birthday. How sweet is she?! Plus I love the title on it!!! Now I finally have somewhere to display my bibs that I never know what to do with after the race. haha Now I just need a medal holder to put with it and I can have a whole wall dedicated to running πŸ™‚


Last night I had an activity with the ladies at church and we had to bring 3 things that represent us as a “get to know you” activity. Here’s what I ended up bringing…


  • Β Pride and Prejudice: Of course this is one of my all time favorite books! I love Jane Austen. I grew up quite the book worm and though I don’t read as much as I used to, it still brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Reading takes me to a place where nobody can get to me…a little bit like running.
  • Big Cottonwood Marathon Medal: Running is kind of important to me (weird, right?). It’s my therapy, my escape, my source of power, calm, strength and peace. This medal in particular is huge for me, since it’s from my first (and currently only) marathon, which was the hardest physical challenge I have ever done. My love of running unites me with friends I never would have met otherwise and helps me to feel more confident in myself and my body.
  • Figurine:Β This was a gift from my high school best friend, Stacey. I sure do miss that girl. I get to see her and her adorable new baby (and 2 year old first baby!) next week!! When it comes to the people I care about I am fiercely loyal. I am also an introvert, so I derive my energy from alone time or time with small groups of people. I really love one on one time and really enjoy having deep conversations with friends and family.

30 Instagram Photos That Will Make You Fall in Love with Sugar Land: My family and I lived in Sugar Land, TX (suburb of Houston) for a time and these photos brought back some fond feelings in my heart. I definitely did not appreciate it for all its beauty when I was there. I was too busy being a grumpy teenager who was forced to move to a new state for senior year. I sure missed out.

I did a very short circuit workout yesterday, but I did clean my room and finally put away all of my Christmas (yes…Christmas) and birthday presents, so that felt good. Today I’m going to try running and see how far I can go while not pushing my foot too hard. NEXT WEEK I go to the She Runs retreat and I have that 5k, amongst other fabulous fitness classes and activities. I don’t want to get more hurt and then not be able to participate.

Birthday and Spartan Race WINNER!

Thank you, thank you for all the birthday wishes over the weekend! I felt so special!

Saturday was a great day! It started with a trip to the gym where I was able to run 1 mile without much pain! Woohoo! I think it was my foot’s birthday present to me πŸ™‚ I also did a 30 minute circuit and it felt great.

Then I went to my friends’ house in order for them (four guys) to cook a bunch of us breakfast. It was delicious! We had cinnamon pancakes with homemade strawberry syrup, fruit salad, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, orange juice and chocolate milk. Yeah, they’re allowed to cook for me whenever they feel like it!! It wasn’t meant to be a birthday breakfast, but they were nice and had everyone sing Happy Birthday to me. I also played a mean game of darts and almost won. Unfortunately, I was having too much fun to take any pictures. It’s ok though. The rest of the day made up for it πŸ™‚
