Argh Mateys!

I was going to blog last night. I really was. But then I heard about 40 Days of Dating and I got sucked in.

Screen Shot 2013-10-30 at 11.26.12 PM

It’s about two friends taking 40 days to try to date and then they journal each day about what is happening in their relationship.

I’m 21 days into it and I’m hooked. It’s super interesting to see both sides of the story and how each person perceives what is happening and interprets what the other is doing/thinking/saying.

But I will show my costume for today…

Argh mateys!

My company is dressing  up, having a potluck lunch and people are bringing their kids to trick or treat at our desks. I bought an M&Ms assortment bag because I’m the best ever. My coworker Christyn and I decided that we should all trick or treat at each other’s desks after the kids are gone. I mean…there can’t be THAT many kids coming with their parents right? More candy for us!

Tonight I have planned a scary movie, pizza and most likely a big Halloween dance. Gotta put this costume to good use!

What are you dressed up as today??

Moms: what are your kids dressed up as?

Best/Worst thing you ever got trick-or-treating?

Amazing Bananas!

I think my coworker it trying to make me gain weight. She came to work with muddy buddies today to “help us get through the day”. Yeah…sure…a likely story 😉

But seriously, best coworker ever!! Again, for all of you to take note, food is one of the top 5 ways to my heart. You’ll have to figure out the other four all on your own.

When I started this little blog, I never imagined all of the friends I would make all over the country. I also never thought I would one day spend an hour and a half Google Hangout-ing with two of them, one in Wisconsin and one in Pennsylvania. How cool is that?! Being the bloggers that we are, we quickly found and utilized the photo capture feature.

Last night I got to “Hangout” with Kim from RacingBananas and Lindsay from Lindsay Weighs In (we missed you Julie and Cori!). We’ve been chatting on Twitter for a while now and randomly decided during one of our conversations yesterday to video chat and “meet” for the first time. It was so fun. Especially once we figured out the special effects on the video chat.

We had a great time and it was so fun to get to know these girls a little bit better. At one point, Lindsay told Kim and me that we come off in real life the same way as we do on our blogs. That made me so happy! I’m glad my true voice and my true character come across on this little blogy. I don’t ever want to be someone who changes who they are for anyone else and I never want to put on an act for the blog. What you see is what you get. And I like that very much.

Yesterday, a coworker of mine sent around an article about all of the benefits of BANANAS! Yeah, I know you thought that bananas were just good for their potassium but they do so much more!

Just to name a few of their super powers, bananas help with:

  • Depression
  • Anemia
  • Mosquito bites
  • Blood Pressure
  • Brain Power
  • PMS
  • Heartburn
  • and more! I’m not going to tell you all of them or you won’t go read the article!

The article also states that two bananas gives you enough energy for 90-minutes of strenuous activity. No wonder I love to eat a banana right before a workout! To read the full article go here. It’s not too long at all and pretty interesting!

By the way, my roommate helped me put together a costume for Halloween and I’m so excited. I wish today were Halloween so that I could be wearing my costume right now. Can’t wait to show you!

Have you met any blog friends in real life? (yes for right now, I’m counting Google Hangout as real life)

Favorite pre-workout food?

I’m doing this for them

These babies had their maiden voyage yesterday. It wasn’t a run, but I did do some different step exercises in between my weights, and some of them were really fast paced, so that’s almost like running! I’m taking this week off of running too, just to be safe, and then I’ll be back next week. So excited!

Next week my cousin is coming into town so that I can take her up to USU and show around and try to convince her that being an Aggie is pretty dang awesome! In preparation for her trip, I’ve purchased tickets to the first official basketball game of the season! So excited! Aggie basketball was a HUGE part of my undergraduate career and I’m so excited to share this with my cousin. It’s going to be a good time.

In high school I was an orchestra nerd (I played violin for 9 years) but my siblings were band nerds. In Texas, they even had the chance to be on the high school marching band, so because of that and the fact that my dad also did marching band in high school and college, I’ve seen a few marching band performances. But holy cow. I’ve never seen anything like this! This is Ohio St. I didn’t think I would watch the whole thing but I just couldn’t stop watching! It’s soooo cool!!

By the way, thank you to everyone for your kind words of congratulations. I’m so excited to be a health coach! 6 months ago I was barely discovering that this job even existed and now here I am about to become one.

During my interview, I was asked why I wanted to be a health coach. My answer was somewhere along the lines of “because it matters” (along with some elaboration of course). This is about their health, their quality of life and could affect not only them but generations to come! Now don’t get me wrong, not everyone is crazy about the idea of working with a coach. In fact, I talk to quite a few people who are pretty upset about it.  But yesterday I talked to a man who when his wife came home and told him about this program her work offered, he was so happy and excited to have “his very own coach!”. He’s taken it to heart and let the program help him. He’s dropped 30 lbs and is much happier, healthier and is so grateful to those who have helped him along the way. He told me the program is “the best thing in the whole world!”.

These are the people I’m doing this for. There will always be those who will be haters and grumps and that I’ll really dread their calls. But then there will be those who I’m so excited to talk to, so proud to see their progress and who will really take it seriously and change their lives for the better. I’ve always wanted a job where I can make a difference in someone’s life and someone’s health. I am so very, very blessed to have that opportunity now.

What have you done to workout this week?

Did you play a sport and/or instrument in high school/college?

What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done?

an exciting announcement!

I didn’t want to take up too much space in yesterday’s post, so I didn’t tell you about the WitchFest I went to on Saturday! There’s this place called Gardner Village and they have all these cute shops. They had a WitchFest night and whoa there were sooo many witches! Women come dressed up and for the first time in my life, I felt awkward that I wasn’t dressed as a witch. Who knew that would be a sentence I’d ever write?? I even ran into Deborah who was there with her mom and sister-in-law.

I’m not that festive and totally got called out for it. Oh well 🙂 We did see some girls who were dressed as the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus and their costumes were soo good! I wanted a picture with them but they walked by too fast. Speaking of Hocus Pocus, did you know it’s 20 years old?? Yeah, go ahead and let that just sink in. 20 YEARS! Oy. Where does the time go??

So a friend of mine posted this quiz below and the result was too funny! Apparently I belong in North Carolina! I have a running joke with Julie, Lindsey and Kim that they’re moving to Utah and last week they changed the state we’re all going to live in to North Carolina. It’s a sign!! Especially since Cori lives there too. Party!

Finally, I have an announcement. I didn’t tell you guys in case nothing came of it, but last week I applied for a Health Coach position at my work….and I got it! I’m going to be an actual Health Coach, with my own participants and everything! I’m not going to lie, even though this is what I want and have been working toward, it scares me so bad. What if I’m not good enough? What if they don’t take me seriously? What if I can’t help them? What if I’m not knowledgable enough?? But that’s how I know this is something worth doing right? Because it scares me and it making me step way out of my comfort zone. This will definitely be a learning and growing experience. I’m super excited about it.

Favorite Halloween Movie?? Hocus Pocus of course. Also Practical Magic.

Take the Quiz! What state do you belong in? Here’s the link again in case you don’t want to scroll up: Quiz

2 Showers, Breakfast and a Car Wash

Warning: You’re about to enter a post with lots of pictures of my weekend.  I got to go up to my old college town and see friends and spend time with my siblings. So fun!

First up, Friday night I attended a bridal shower for the beautiful Tabetha (center). I’ve missed these girls!

The next morning I met my siblings for breakfast at my favorite breakfast/lunch place. They were more than happy to join me.

This place is seriously the best! If you’re ever in Logan, UT you have to go here. Promise? Ok good.

I figured I should be in at least one picture with me in it. The sun was really, really bright.

Then I remembered that I had 3 punches left on a punch pass for a car wash in town and since I don’t live there anymore, I thought this would be a good way to use it up! So the three of us took all three of our cars and got them washed and vacuumed them out.

Things got crazy…

But the cars got cleaned. That’s all that mattered.

The weather was GORGEOUS! I just love fall in Cache Valley. This picture doesn’t even begin to do it justice but I just had to show you a small glimpse of what it looks like.

I finished up the trip with a baby shower (yeah I go to a lot of showers) for McKayla! Don’t worry guys, she’s 8 months pregnant. I’m pretty sure I look that big after a big lunch.

It was a quick trip but it was so fun! The weather is supposed to stop being so amazing in the next couple of days, so I’m going to try to enjoy it today. After church I’m going to spend some time in the hammock! For real this time. Last time I said that it didn’t happen. Oops.

Tell me about your weekend!

20 Things

Happy Friday! In case anyone is keeping count, today is 2 months until Christmas and 3 months until my birthday. Both are a pretty big deal, folks.

Last night Deborah and I went to visit our friend Danielle and her new baby girl, Lyla. This is our attempt at fitting all four ladies in one picture. Unfortunately I was closest to the camera, so my head looks massive. Super flattering. At least the baby was cute 😉

Recently I was given the Liebster Award from Hilary and the Sunshine Award by Andrea, so I thought I would combine them for a nice little “Get to know Alyssa” Friday special! Thanks, ladies!

We’ll start with Hilary’s Questions for me:

1. What is your favorite book series and why?

This is a really hard one so I’ll give you a couple different ones. Anne of Green Gables – childhood classic. Harry Potter – I feel like I grew up with those books. I mean, I was the same age as the characters through the series! Hunger Games – ok I don’t know why really but I love them! I also love The Help, Ella Enchanted, Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abby, Sandition, and so many others.

2. Why did you begin blogging?

I’ve always loved to write and I liked the idea of starting a blog where I could talk about anything I wanted to but focus in on my passion for running, fitness, wellness, etc.

3. If you could live anywhere other than your current location where would it be?

Honestly, I really love my current location but just to be adventurous let’s say Boston!

4. Did you have a favorite childhood pet?

Growing up we had two dogs, Dax and Sassy. Love them both!

5. What never fails to make you laugh?

Friends. I love that show (as you should well know!)

6. Do you have a favorite holiday family tradition?

I have a couple, but one that I always enjoyed growing up was my mom coloring the food for holidays, like everything green for breakfast for St. Patty’s Day or pink for Valentine’s. So festive!

7. Do you have any special talents?

haha special? Not really. I think I’m a pretty good listener though. Does that count?

8. What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?

Joshua 1: 9 – “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

9. What is your favorite App to use on your phone?

Probably Instagram

10. What would you choose as your last meal?

Spinach salad, sweet potato fries with fry sauce, steak, roll with honey butter and froyo for dessert.
And now for Andrea’s questions:

1. What is the craziest thing you have done?

Slept outside overnight in line for a basketball game. in December. in Logan, UT. Which mean it was like 4 degrees. But it was soooo worth it!!

2. Hot weather or Cold weather?

Cold! I am always hot, so I’m definitely drawn to cooler temps.

3. Wine or Beer?

4. What do you do when you first wake up in the morning?

I’m trying to get into the habit of reading my scriptures first thing and this week is going pretty well!

 5. What is your favorite thing about the city you live in?

That it’s a big enough city to have great cultural things like plays, concerts, museums, etc while still not being too big. Also that it’s right next to the mountains!

6. What’s one thing that can immediately brighten your day?

Talking to someone who is earnestly trying to make their lives better and hearing about their successes.

7. What is one book that you can read over and over again?

See Question #1 from Hilary’s questions!

8. Have you met anyone famous?

Does Donny Osmond count?

9. What is your worst habit?

I used to always be so prompt but the last couple of years I’ve slipped and I’m always juuusssttt in time if not a minute or two late. It’s a serious problem in my life. But really. It drives me crazy.

10. What is the best Halloween costume you have ever worn?

Hmmm…I’m going to go with the year I was a cheerleader. I wore my mom’s high school letterman jacket with it. I really liked that one.

Well folks, that’s all for now! Have a most fabulous Friday!

Pick one or two or a few of the questions above!

It’s a conspiracy!

My coworkers must really like me (or don’t like me and are trying to fatten me up!…it’s a conspiracy!) because yesterday one of the bought me this cookie from Paradise….

And another one brought me this yummy chex mix bag of deliciousness. Yeah that bag may be completely empty now but in my defense I did share. It was amazing.

I’m choosing to think they just like me and want me to be happy. Food is totally one of the top 5 ways to my heart, so they’re doing a really good job. However, after I got home from work I knew I needed something a little bit healthier…ok a lot a bit healthier, so I decided to make a nice big salad.

Spinach, apple, grapes, cranberries, sliced almonds, a teeny bit of mozzarella cheese and a strawberry vinaigrette. The only thing it could have used would have been some grilled chicken on top but I was short on time. It was still freaking delicious. I’m thinking of packing it for lunch today!

And yes, my plate is on the floor. Sometimes I don’t feel like eating at the table and since I’m a grown up and don’t have anyone learning their manners from me yet, I do what I want 😉

Coming home from work was the BEST yesterday because these beauties were waiting for me on my front porch!!!

I am seriously obsessed with these shoes!! I’ve been wanting bright colored running shoes for a while now (I mean, everyone else has them…I want some obvi) so I was SUPER stoked to get these. Then I read on Janae’s blog yesterday that the new Brooks line is bringing white back into the running shoe. Sigh…always two steps behind the cool kids…I’m not bothered by it though. I’m just super happy about my new shoes. The temptation to go running is almost too much. But I know I need to play it safe til my foot is totally healed. It’s feeling MUCH better by the way. So I’ll be back in no time!

Yesterday I did two different weight circuits at my gym and at the time I didn’t think it was too bad but I woke up sore today. I love it when that happens. I’ll definitely be doing those circuits again soon!

What is your very favorite treat of all time?? I know, I ask all the hard questions!

Favorite salad? I would love some new ideas!

Favorite workout this week so far?
