Some Yoga, a Wedding and a Basketball game

Yesterday started off with a little morning yoga in the living room with my roommate. I was super tight so it felt awesome to stretch everything out!

Next up was a beautiful wedding ceremony where there were lots of smiles, happy tears and I gained a new aunt and 2 new cousins. (photo cred to my sister)

The night time festivities started with a quick, chilly walk around Temple Square to kill time before the basketball game.

Then a Jazz game against the Sun’s where they gave us over sized green shirts (for the green out of course). Also, if you smile super cheesy, it makes up for the poor quality of the phone picture.

Just about as nose bleeds as you can get! haha But still super fun!

Grateful for the fun time I’ve had to spend with my cousins and siblings this weekend. And no, our family cannot take even one totally serious picture. Not even at the wedding..

Completed yesterday’s #Elf4Health water drinking and tracking challenge. Easy Peasy!

Today’s challenge is to treat myself to something I’ve been wanting for a while. Hmmmm…this will be tricky to narrow down 😉

If you could treat yourself to something today (or if you are for #elf4heath!) what would you get for yourself?

Last professional sports even you went to?

How many cousins do you have? Yesterday’s additions brought us up to 46 total!

Tree is up and we are cultured

Hey guys! How were all of your Thanksgivings?? Mine was wonderful. There was lots of fun and family time to be had, so I’ll just post some (ok many) pictures and keep the captions short…mostly.

Did my own Turkey Trot.

After dinner with our immediate family, went and spent time with extended family.

View from my grandparents’ back deck = Awesome

Cousins are the best

Time to put up the Christmas tree!

Brother wouldn’t give phone back…

We reconciled and took a picture together with the tree. I have a sister…she wasn’t so into the pictures…

The Christmas tree is completed. Love it! Our decorations all have a meaning and were collected throughout the years.

We’re not Jewish but my parents have always thought it cool to light a menorah, ever since the year they decided to make us more cultured and teach us about Hanukkah.

Normally, I would go back to work today but I took the day off because my uncle is getting married today! Hooray! I’m sure there will be lots of pictures to show you tomorrow 🙂

How was your Thanksgiving?

When do you put up your Christmas tree?

Anyone celebrating Hanukkah??

Happy Turkey Day!

I can’t let this day go by without making a small list of things I’m grateful for:

  • My family – immediate, extended and new additions
  • Old friends who still make me laugh
  • New friends who keep life interesting
  • A job that I love and feel like I am making a difference
  • This blog and all the wonderful people it’s brought into my life
  • And of course running and exercise, for helping me maintain some level of sanity

I have Thanksgiving dinner today with my immediate family (yay for brother and sister being home from college!) and then we usually head to my grandparents’ for some of the many yummy desserts that are always there during the holidays.

Have a very Happy Turkey Day! Gobble Gobble!

What are your Thanksgiving plans?

Favorite main dish?

Favorite dessert??

Happy Birthday, Desiree!

Meatless Monday was a success! Although it did lead to me eating more carbs than normal and I’m not a big fan of that. Not that I have anything against carbs. I love those things. But I know how my body reacts to it and I try not to eat too much of it, so normally I’d rather eat more meat and protein. It was an interesting experiment though. Today is unsubscribe day and I have to tell you, it’s necessary!! I delete so many emails a day without even opening them. This is good for my sanity.

One of my best friends, Desiree, is going to PA school in Arizona but she is back in town for the week, so a few of us got to go to dinner with her to celebrate her birthday that happened a couple of days ago!

I swear when my friends and I all get together, our maturity level goes down at least 5 years. Oh well. At least we have fun!

It was great to get together and talk about the good ol’ college days. We sure did some crazy things. These ladies were a big part of my basketball watching crowd and we spend a lot of times camping out for games (one time overnight in single digit degree weather) and traveling for tournaments. Good times.

Thanks for being born, Desiree so that we could all get together and celebrate your life! <3!!

Ok yesterday I was still plenty sore from barre. I’m a believer! That is seriously a great class! Now I just need to figure out when I can go next. Maybe this Saturday? Make it a weekly thing? I don’t hate the idea 😉 Today I’ll either be running or doing a circuit of strength and cardio. I haven’t quite decided. But I did help with some of that cake above so I definitely need to do something!

PS I love being a health coach! I can’t wait to watch these people progress over the coming months. Life is good.

When is your birthday??

Who are your best friends and please tell me you guys also act like idiots together?

Name at least one email you could unsubscribe from and it would benefit your life

#Elf4Health Meatless Monday

Today is the start of #Elf4Health! (try saying it out loud. I can’t. Literally I stumble EVERY time!) I’m sure if you’re reading many other blogs you’ve heard of it before now. I saw the button on other blogs and finally investigated it and decided to join in! It’s a 4 week health and wellness challenge with a different challenge every day. Today we start it off with Meatless Monday! This wouldn’t be too bad normally but today we’re going to dinner for a friend’s birthday and my favorite dish at the restaurant of course involves meat. But that’s why it’s a challenge right??

Part of the fun of #Elf4Health is that you get paired with another participant to be each other’s “elf” and encourage each other along the way. My elf for the first two weeks is Matt from Runner Savvy. Feel free to pop over to his blog or send him an encouraging tweet (@metabor89)!

Here’s a list of the challenges so you can see what I’ll be doing each day. I love that some of the challenges just revolve around being a better person or clearing some stress from your life.

If you’re interested in joining in for the 2nd half (you all totally should!), you can register here. It’s free, it’s fun and so far there are about 800 participants. How cool is that?!

For Meatlesss Monday, I’ll be having old fashion oats with brown sugar and berries for breakfast, greek yogurt, PB&J with an apple for lunch and then we’ll see what I end up being able to find at the restaurant tonight for dinner. Hooray for challenges that keep life interesting!

On a totally  unrelated note, I finally put up my decorations in my room last night, with Deborah’s help. Yup, after almost 2 months of living here, I have finally unpacked everything. It’s a great feeling. Plus my room is cute now. Another unrelated note, I foam rolled my quads and IT bands after barre the other night and those were the only parts of me that weren’t sore yesterday. I’m a new believer in the foam roller!! I’m putting one of those on my Christmas wish list…(ahem…Mom…I mean, Santa) 😉

Have a lovely Monday!!! Even if you’re not doing  the first round of #Elf4Health, feel free to join me in Meatless Monday today!

Anyone else doing #Elf4Health? What are you eating today?

Looking at the calendar above, which would be the most challenging day for you?

What’s the longest you’ve lived in a new place before being completely unpacked?

Hardest workout class ever

My day yesterday started out with this arm workout from Danica at It’s Progression. I’ve been meaning to try it for a while so it was nice to finally do it. It was great! Thanks, Danica!

Then I got to meet Sharsti for breakfast at Kneaders!! Yum!! I’d been looking forward to the french toast all week 😉

It was soo fun to finally meet her in person and chat! We ended up hanging out for 2 hours! I think this is the start of a beautiful friendship. Her little boy J was with us too but he was distracted by the treats. I can’t blame him. They looked delicious!

Seriously, the new friends I’m making from this blog are the best part of this experience. You guys rock.

Later my mom called me and invited me to come to her barre class with her. I hadn’t tried barre before but I’ve been wanting to so I gladly jumped at the chance. Oh my. I had no idea what I was in for. That was by far the hardest workout class I have EVER attended!! Don’t get me wrong, I loved it! I bought a 3 class pass and I’m excited to go again. But man oh man am I going to be sore! Hurt so good!

It was a great Saturday, meeting a blogger friend and getting some great workouts in. Life is good.

What was your workout this weekend?

Favorite breakfast food? French toast, hands down.

Anyone else tried barre?

The more colors the better

Yesterday I decided to brave the cold and run outside. Which of course required as many colors as possible. Including the ones on my shirt that you can’t see, I counted around 10. The more the merrier! I think it’s the secret to having a good run outside. Keep that in mind!

Plus since I joined the gym, it’s been wayyy too long since I’ve heard the sweet chirping of my Garmin. It was a nice reunion.

Update: I officially coached someone for the first time! I have my very own participants! Hooray! It went pretty well and I feel a little more comfortable and confident now. The appointments just keep coming next week as I work on building my participant load. It’s fun and I’m excited to work with the same people and watch their efforts and progress over the course of the year. Up until now I’ll have talked to someone once and most likely wouldn’t talk to them in a coaching way again. This will be great.

My uncle is getting married next week! Day after Thanksgiving, so it’s going to be a festive time! He is only 8 years older than me (there’s a 16 year age difference between him and my mom) so he’s always been a little bit more like a big brother than an uncle. So it’s a little bit more like gaining a big sister and I love it. I’m so excited to have Juliann join the family! Here we are at dinner last night with Juliann (middle, wearing white), my mom, one of her sisters and a sister-in-law and Juliann’s mom and 3 of her sisters. It was so much fun!

We ate at this cute French bakery and I had the most delicious chicken pesto sandwich ever. Just imagine it because I was so hungry I totally didn’t even realize I spaced taking a picture until this exact moment. But I did take a picture of the AMAZING Black and White cake that I selected for dessert. Oh, be still my heart!! It was delicious!!!!

Now I’m working out and have a pretty laid back Saturday in the works after that. Hope you all have a very happy Saturday! Three cheers for the weekend! (I hope you’re really cheering)

Do you like to be colorful when running/exercising?

How close in age are you to your siblings and/or youngest aunt or uncle?

Best dessert you’ve had this week?
