Birthday and Spartan Race WINNER!

Thank you, thank you for all the birthday wishes over the weekend! I felt so special!

Saturday was a great day! It started with a trip to the gym where I was able to run 1 mile without much pain! Woohoo! I think it was my foot’s birthday present to me 🙂 I also did a 30 minute circuit and it felt great.

Then I went to my friends’ house in order for them (four guys) to cook a bunch of us breakfast. It was delicious! We had cinnamon pancakes with homemade strawberry syrup, fruit salad, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, orange juice and chocolate milk. Yeah, they’re allowed to cook for me whenever they feel like it!! It wasn’t meant to be a birthday breakfast, but they were nice and had everyone sing Happy Birthday to me. I also played a mean game of darts and almost won. Unfortunately, I was having too much fun to take any pictures. It’s ok though. The rest of the day made up for it 🙂

Lunch with my parents:

Pedicures with my mom!

Family party that evening:

Lots of cake! and photo-bombers!

Then we recreated an old picture! bahaha!

And now for the winner of the Reebok Spartan Race Giveaway…..

more celebrations, a new belt, and my secret to good health

The celebration kept going yesterday as my sister decided to relive our Texas days at Longhorn Steakhouse for her birthday dinner. It was super good. My steak was amazing! The dork in the picture is my dad. He’ll smile for pictures like this and then make funny faces in picture where we’re trying to be serious.

The festivities continued at home with an ice cream cake! Yum!!! She can have a birthday whenever she likes if it means ice cream cake 😉

My roommate’s birthday was also this weekend but since she was out-of-town, we all went to dinner tonight. It was so fun! and yes, I do like to pretend I don’t have a neck.

My mom is the best and bought me this belt to wear while running. It’s made to hold my keys, my phone, chapstick, whatever! She was also excited that it’s such a bright flourescent color so cars will be sure to see me. I’m excited to have a place to put my phone where I won’t get chaffing! (my arm band that usually holds it just tears into my skin)

Chances are I won’t wear it with this outfit though. I don’t think I would get a good response if I started wearing this instead of my purse.

Tonight I wanted to share one of my personal secrets to staying healthy. Prenatal multivitamins (nope not pregnant)

All my life my mom had to remind us every day to take our multivitamins. Every.Day. So when I moved away to college, I’m sure she was panicked that I wouldn’t take them. Let’s be honest, it was a very valid concern. She gave me a bottle of prenatal multivitamins and said “they’re like super vitamins”. You know what? She was right! Just check out this label! (and contrary to apparently popular belief, they don’t contain hormones. just vitamins and minerals with extra doses of things like folic acid, which are very important during pregnancy).

Over the years, I’ve noticed that the times when I’m consistently taking these multivitamins not only do my hair and nails rock (I have very brittle nails and this almost completely fixes it) but I don’t get sick very easily. It’s amazing. Especially over the last couple of years, I’ve been catching colds and flues just about every couple of months. It’s ridiculous. But since I’ve been taking these every night for the last couple of months the illnesses that I’ve felt coming on haven’t developed into anything. I swear these are magic or something.

The point is, I highly recommend that you find a multivitamin that works for you (obviously I’m a fan of the prenatal and would definitely recommend them). While it’s technically possible to get all the nutrients your body needs through the food you eat (and hopefully you get most of them that way) you most likely aren’t getting everything. The best thing you can do is to take a multivitamin daily to make sure your body is getting everything it needs. It’s a small way that you can continue to take care of your body.

Anyone else celebrating birthdays like crazy lately?

-seriously I have another birthday party this coming Saturday. Woohoo!

How do you carry your keys/phone/iPod/etc when running?

Do you take a multivitamin? Which one do you take?

What’s one of your secrets to staying healthy?

P.S. Today’s workout was a 75 minute yoga class. Tomorrow’s workout forecast shows a run.

Our green baby

A couple years ago a friend introduced to me to the Sleep Cycle app and I’ve been using it on and off ever since. It tracks how you sleep during the night based on your motions (you put it on the corner of your bed). Well I’m happy to report that I got a sleep quality of 97%! Best sleep night ever! Here’s the proof:

As you can see, I have no issues falling asleep. I drop off the moment my head hits the pillow!

Yesterday I got a good 1.5 hour yoga class in. Felt great! There were a couple times I thought my legs would give out because they were so tired.

Today is a very special day. We take St. Patrick’s Day very seriously in this family. My mom made green eggs and ham…

All the kids wore green (yes my sister is wearing green. I don’t know why it looks blue in the picture)

And it’s all because it’s this girl’s birthday!!! She really does love us I promise.

My sister was born 8 weeks early because of my mom’s extremely high blood pressure during the pregnancy and I still remember the way she said “No! I don’t want a green baby!” Haha Glad to have my baby sister 🙂

I know I’m being a terrible blogger this weekend but a birthday dinner followed by cookies and cream ice cream cake are calling my name. I’ll see you all tomorrow!

Happy Sunday!

Any of your family members have holiday birthdays?

Any St. Patty’s Day traditions?

What did you do this weekend?

cookie butter, cousins and snapchat

I know I already posted today but I forgot to tell you all something really sad…

My TJ Cookie Butter ran out a couple of days ago. I’ve made this thing last since Christmas time! If you haven’t had this, you are so missing out. However, there is hope because my boss said if we got a certain project done by Wednesday we could take an office Trader Joe’s run. So you better believe I’m working them hard 😉

Tonight I got to go to my aunt’s birthday shin dig. Here are some pictures from the night:

We had a LOT of good food. I feel so gross right now. But I don’t regret it one bit.

I also had this cake. It was a delicious as it looks! Yum! I’m so glad people were born and we celebrate it every year.

My aunt loves Wonder Woman and has lots of Wonder Woman things, including this apron. I got my little cousin to try it on and she struck this pose all by herself. I’m so proud.

IMG_1804And is there anything better than cousins?? I don’t think so. I sure love mine!

We are crazy, but that’s ok. We have a lot of fun. I love being the oldest 🙂

The older girl cousins. Sorry, little girls.

We also made sure everyone in the family downloaded snapchat and started using it right away. This is probably the most flattering picture ever taken of me, ever.

You’re so blessed that I allowed you to see this gem. My cousin and sister probably aren’t too pleased. I won’t tell them if you don’t. 🙂

I’m going to need to do a really good run tomorrow to work off tonight’s birthday feast. I’m going to wear my new compression socks. Can’t wait!

Have you ever had TJ cookie butter? What’s your favorite thing to buy there??

Are you close to your cousins/extended family?

What workout are you planning to do tomorrow?
