I’ve been to Boston once, only for a few hours, and completely fell in love with the city. It’s been hard for me to comprehend something so bad happening in a place that I hold dear. The events at the Boston Marathon today have had me sick all day. For those who were killed and injured, for their families and friends, for the runners who trained so hard for this event and didn’t get to finish, for those who will always have a scar on their heart because of the evil choices of some stranger.
I hate that something that is so beautiful, that’s such an amazing symbol of achievement, that so many people aspire to attain has been tainted. I mourn for the inability to go back to the way things used to be.
However, among all the heartbreak I have found so much to be grateful for.
- I am so thankful to be part of this running family that has rallied together and expressed so much love, support and determination to rise about this. I am so amazed by how strong we really are. Thank you for your example to me.
- I am grateful for the safety of all my friends and family, something others aren’t so lucky to experience today.
- I’m so grateful for my healthy body and it’s ability to run. I still aspire to run the Boston Marathon one day.
- I am thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ that brings me peace and comfort in times of sadness.
- I celebrate those who I watched on numerous videos run to the aid of those who were injured. It’s always so reassuring to see that when bad things happen, good people are always there to do what they can to help.
- I’m grateful to live in a nation that rises from the ashes and comes out stronger than before.
I pray that those affected will be granted peace and comfort and the strength to endure. Today, my heart is truly in Boston.
Beautiful. I’m so thankful to be able to run again tomorrow… to be able to do what I love. I am so happy to be a part of this amazing running community. Tomorrow, I’m doing a run without music or GPS …. I’m running just to run. I’m running to support my fellow runners and their families at Boston. I’m running with a heavy heart, but I’m running.
So am I! Running really is the best way to honor those who have been hurt. I love that you’re running just to run. Awesome.
Beautiful post. Very well said.
Thank you π
Well said. Running is a sport that everyone is usually so supportive of. It is hard to see that such an amazing and inspirational event can turn ugly so quickly. I will run with heart tomorrow and race hard at practice. It’s the only way to help this situation. Just keep running.
I love that of all things, running is the thing to help us through this. Just keep running π
Alyssa, I LOVE that quote. So much. You are incredible! YOU are one of the helpers. It has been so fun to watch your blog become so successful so quickly. I may not be as avid of a runner as I hope to one day be, but I feel some connection to all runners today because of the tragic event. My heart goes out to the spectators who were injured and family members of those who were killed.
oh thanks Steph! You’re so sweet. Isn’t it awesome how quickly you feel a connection to our running family? It’s amazing.
Beautifully said. It is an unthinkable tragedy, but I’m so happy to have my running community.
Thank you. I agree, that’s been such an amazing part out of this whole tragedy.
Thank you for a thoughtful, gratitude filled post…
loved your gratitude in this post because when tragedy like this happens, you tend to lose hope in humanity but again there are amazing people showing support, love and prayers.
Thank you. That’s so true. It’s so easy to see only the bad that is happening but it’s so uplifting when you can notice the good that is countering it.
